Season 21 of NCIS ended with a jaw-dropping cliffhanger, and Season 22 promises even more drama. According to showrunner Steven D. Binder, the writers plan to push the characters to their limits.
“There was a mix of closure and cliffhangers,” Binder revealed at the CBS Fall TV 2024 Party. “We resolved some things but also left some character cliffhangers. We wanted to give the audience some peace while still keeping them on edge.”
Looking ahead to Season 22, Binder teased, “We don’t have a slogan yet, but ‘take it to the limit’ sums up what we want to do with the characters.” He hinted at unexpected character pairings and extreme situations that push them beyond their comfort zones.
Season 21 wrapped with Special Agent Jessica Knight (Katrina Law) facing a tough decision to accept a teaching role at Camp Pendleton, threatening her relationship with Jimmy Palmer. While the fate of their relationship remains a mystery, Binder hinted at plenty of surprises for the new season.
NCIS Season 22 premieres on CBS on Monday, Oct. 14, at 8 p.m. ET before moving to its regular 9 p.m. ET slot. Returning cast members include Rocky Carroll, Katrina Law, Diona Reasonover, Brian Dietzen, Wilmer Valderrama, Sean Murray, and Gary Cole.
In addition to the new season, NCIS fans can look forward to a crossover podcast with 48 HOURS, diving into real-life cases like the disappearance of Erin Corwin, hosted by Natalie Morales.
