Cote de Pablo and Michael Weatherly Return to the NCIS Universe with Exciting New Spinoff!
A decade after leaving the original NCIS series, Cote de Pablo and Michael Weatherly are set to make a thrilling comeback in a new NCIS spinoff for Paramount+. The duo will reprise their iconic roles as Ziva David and Tony DiNozzo in a 10-episode series, which is still untitled. Production is slated to begin later this year with John McNamara, known for Trumbo and The Magicians, serving as showrunner and executive producer.
The new series will bring back de Pablo, who departed after Season 11, and Weatherly, who left after Season 13. They will both serve as executive producers alongside McNamara, who penned the premiere episode.
CBS Studios will produce the spinoff, with Paramount Global Content Distribution handling distribution. Laurie Lieser, Christina Strain, and Shelley Meals will also join as executive producers.
In a joint statement, Weatherly and de Pablo shared their excitement: “We’ve been talking about this story for many years, and now, with John McNamara at the helm, we are ready. The world of Tony and Ziva (and daughter Tali) promises to be an action-packed roller coaster fueled by love, danger, tears, and laughter. We also want to thank the fans who have supported the ‘TIVA’ movement for years and continue to express their love for these characters.”
The series will pick up after Ziva’s presumed death, following Tony as he raises their daughter, Tali, on his own. When Ziva is found alive, she completes one final mission with NCIS before reuniting with Tony and Tali in Paris. Now, Tony and Ziva are raising their daughter together. When Tony’s security firm is attacked, the family must go on the run across Europe, unravel the mystery behind the attack, and rebuild their trust to achieve a happily-ever-after.
Since its launch, the NCIS franchise has been a top performer on Paramount+, consistently ranking among the top five franchises in hours watched.
Weatherly, who stayed within the CBS family after NCIS with the series Bull, faced controversy during the show’s run. In 2018, it was reported that Weatherly had made inappropriate comments towards Eliza Dushku, who was written off the show shortly after confronting him. Dushku later received a $9.5 million settlement from CBS.
