When NCIS Season 22 kicks off, big changes are in store both in the office and out in the field. Showrunner Steve Binder revealed to Entertainment Weekly that a time jump and a “chain reaction” will lead to a major shift within the team. Jessica Knight is no longer part of the group, having accepted a REACT chief position in California, where she’s been for six months. Meanwhile, McGee is aiming for a deputy director role, and Torres has returned to undercover work, leaving Parker noticeably on his own. “The team kind of separates,” Binder teased, describing Parker entering an empty bullpen.
Fans won’t be completely without Jessica, though. A case brings Parker out west, where he reconnects with her. As they reunite, Jessica grapples with whether she made a mistake taking the job and leaving her boyfriend, Jimmy, behind. Their conversation happens under difficult circumstances, and whether Jessica returns to the team or stays with REACT remains up in the air.
Expect NCIS Season 22 to deliver more thrilling cases, romance, and mysteries. Binder hinted at “fun and unusual” character pairings and a deep dive into Parker’s past, particularly uncovering the mystery of Lily, someone from his youth.
Returning cast members include Sean Murray as Timothy McGee, Gary Cole as Alden Parker, Katrina Law as Jessica Knight, Wilmer Valderrama as Nick Torres, Brian Dietzen as Jimmy Palmer, Diona Reasonover as Kasie Hines, and Rocky Carroll as Leon Vance. The new season premieres on CBS on October 14, alongside NCIS: Origins, a prequel focusing on a young Jethro Gibbs.
