In NCIS Season 22, the MCRT team will return to tackle new cases when the show premieres this fall. The upcoming season sees each team member pursuing their own interests while still solving mysteries and maintaining law and order within the naval sector. CBS has released new images from the season premiere, titled “Empty Nest,” which hint at some team members facing troubling situations while others embark on new endeavors.
One major storyline involves McGee, who is now aiming for the deputy director position. However, the new images show McGee looking serious in one scene and later in the lab discussing something critical with Director Vance, Kasie, and a mysterious individual. The episode’s logline teases multiple tense situations: “NCIS searches for a missing undercover agent in the midst of an active hostage situation.”
Team Members on Different Paths in NCIS Season 22
Meanwhile, Torres is seen with a fresh, full-grown beard and staring intently off-screen. Showrunner Steve Binder has previously mentioned that Torres will return to his undercover roots this season. His new appearance may be part of an undercover mission, or it could simply be a personal change, as six months have passed since the events of Season 21, allowing time for a new look to emerge.
Another intriguing storyline centers on Jessica, who took the REACT job six months ago but remains unsure if it’s the right fit for her. Despite leaving the team and her boyfriend behind, Jessica seems to have adapted to her new role, as seen in an image where she is geared up in combat attire and wielding a large weapon. Binder confirmed that while Jessica is no longer part of the MCRT, she will still be featured throughout the season. Whether the focus will be on her new position or a potential return to the team remains uncertain.
While the new images don’t reveal what Parker is up to, his storyline will also be explored in the new season. After sustaining an injury in Season 21, Parker unlocked a forgotten memory about someone named Lily. Binder hinted at Parker’s complex past, stating, “We don’t always remember the scars of our youth.” Fans can look forward to unraveling the mystery of Parker’s past and what caused him to suppress those memories.
NCIS returns October 14 on CBS.
