Even though “NCIS: Los Angeles” wrapped up in May 2023, Sam Hanna (LL Cool J) remains in the NCIS universe, now part of “NCIS: Hawai’i.” However, it’s a rare exception; most of his former co-stars, including Eric Christian Olsen, have not reprised their “NCIS: LA” roles.
Olsen, who played Marty Deeks in over 300 episodes of “NCIS: LA,” is shifting gears. With the end of the series, he’s focusing on a new career chapter as a producer. While he currently has no new acting roles lined up, he’s diving into production full throttle.
Under his Cloud Nine Productions banner, Olsen is producing several projects. The most notable is the CBS reboot of the ’80s legal drama “Matlock,” set to premiere in 2024. His company has also sold a sitcom led by Al Madrigal, an autobiographical romantic comedy by Liz Thompson, and a crime drama titled “Peculiar,” all in development at CBS.
Olsen’s production journey began in 2016, during his “NCIS: LA” run, but his company’s first TV show, “Woke” starring Lamorne Morris, didn’t premiere until 2020. Despite this, Cloud Nine was busy in the final years of “NCIS: LA,” securing deals with CBS and Hulu, including a comedy titled “Fruit Man” and a series based on rapper Dumbfoundead’s life.
With several projects in the pipeline and new ventures on the horizon, Olsen’s transition from actor to producer seems to be keeping him plenty occupied.
