CBS is launching a new NCIS spin-off this fall: NCIS: Origins!

Set in 1991, NCIS: Origins explores the early years of Leroy Jethro Gibbs, the iconic character made famous by Mark Harmon. This new series introduces Austin Stowell as a younger Gibbs, which might surprise some fans used to the original portrayal. The role of young Gibbs was expected by some to go to Sean Harmon, Mark Harmon’s son, who previously appeared as a young Gibbs in flashbacks.

NCIS: Origins will also feature a younger Mike Franks, played by Kyle Schmid. Will fans embrace these fresh takes on beloved characters? We’ll soon see!

Austin Stowell, a 39-year-old actor from Kensington, Connecticut, takes on the role of young Gibbs. Known for his work in The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Dolphin Tale, and Bridge of Spies, Stowell’s portrayal of Gibbs could be his breakout role. He even guest-starred in an episode of NCIS: Los Angeles back in 2010.

Get a glimpse of Stowell’s transformation into Gibbs in a teaser video showing his transition from beard to the iconic clean-shaven look. The caption teases: “Gear up, probie — we’re throwing it all the way back to the 90’s. #NCISOrigins premieres Monday, October 14 on CBS.”

NCIS: Origins kicks off with two episodes back-to-back on October 14, airing at 9/8c before moving to the 10/9c slot. Don’t miss the chance to dive into Gibbs’ early adventures!

For those catching up, all previous NCIS seasons, including NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: Hawai’i, NCIS: Sydney, and NCIS: New Orleans, are streaming on Paramount+.
