NCIS Franchise Expands: Tiva Spinoff Heads to Paramount+, NCIS: Origins to CBS
As NCIS gears up for its 1,000th episode milestone, the franchise is branching out. CBS announced a prequel series focusing on a young Gibbs, while Paramount+ ordered its own spinoff centered around Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David, with Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo reprising their roles.
Network executive George Cheeks explained the decision to stream the Tiva show, citing its serialized nature and the desire to expand the NCIS universe across different platforms.
While NCIS: Origins will air on CBS, the Tiva spinoff will be a streaming exclusive. This move allows for more creative freedom and longer episodes, catering to Paramount+ subscribers’ preferences.
Though releasing multiple spinoffs simultaneously might seem overwhelming, Cheeks is confident in the franchise’s ability to captivate audiences across different mediums.
Filming for the Tony and Ziva-led spinoff is set to begin later this year in Europe, although a premiere date is yet to be announced. Regardless of the platform, fans are eager to see the continued success of the NCIS franchise after two decades.
