Mark Harmon is gearing up to reprise his iconic role in “NCIS: Origins,” delving into the early years of his character within the organization. However, fans might not have to wait long to see Harmon return as Gibbs in “NCIS” Season 21, especially in an episode dedicated to bidding farewell to David McCallum’s character, Ducky Mallard.
Following McCallum’s passing, the CBS police procedural intends to pay tribute to the beloved medical examiner-turned-historian with a special episode. The storyline will revolve around the team solving a case that Ducky was working on before his demise.
Considering Gibbs’ longstanding friendship with Ducky, which predates the series, it’s only fitting for him to be present at the planned funeral.
Thankfully, “NCIS” Season 21 won’t require Harmon’s return to be heavily emphasized, given his integral role in the franchise’s history. Instead, Gibbs can respectfully pay his respects at Ducky’s funeral without much fanfare.
There’s no need for Gibbs to engage with other characters, including Tim McGee, despite their long-standing professional relationship. Gibbs’ main focus is to honor his old friend and bid him a fitting farewell.
