Three months after *NCIS: Hawai’i* was dropped from CBS, showrunners Jan Nash, Christopher Silber, and Matt Bosack shared their reactions in an interview with TVLine. They were caught off guard by the decision, expressing that if they had known the cancellation was coming, they wouldn’t have ended the series on a cliffhanger. They noted that the network’s lack of intervention suggested they, too, were surprised. The trio emphasized their love for the show and acknowledged the unpredictable nature of the TV industry, though they admitted the cancellation was painful.
Lead actor Vanessa Lachey described feeling “blindsided” by the news, with co-stars Jason Antoon and Tori Anderson sharing similar sentiments. Antoon pointed out the harsh realities of the business and lamented that they couldn’t provide a more conclusive ending. After the cancellation, Antoon highlighted an article showing that *NCIS: Hawai’i* ranked No. 16 in total viewers for the 2023-2024 TV season, reflecting the show’s popularity. CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach later described the cancellation of *Hawai’i*, *So Help Me Todd*, and *CSI: Vegas* as “extremely tough calls.”
