Unfortunately, it appears that Mark Harmon will not be making a physical appearance as Leroy Jethro Gibbs in NCIS: Origins. Although Gibbs retired from the series in Season 19 and has been mentioned to be in Naktok Bay, Alaska, there has been no development indicating his return.

Despite several opportunities where Gibbs’ return could have been incorporated, nothing has materialized so far. When the news about NCIS: Origins emerged, fans hoped the prequel might lead to Harmon’s return. However, during the Television Critics Association summer press tour, Harmon confirmed that he will not be reprising his role in a physical capacity.

Harmon shared his thoughts on the matter, expressing satisfaction with his current involvement. He stated, “I’m fine with the step-back role and [to] let the [new] cast do the work. I’m pleased to be part of it. I’m a distant part. I’m just here to support.”

So, while Harmon is contributing to the prequel as a narrator and producer, he remains a background presence rather than an active character in the storyline.
