The NCIS franchise, which has been a hit for over 20 years and 1,000 episodes, is set to expand with a new spinoff this fall. For the first time, the franchise will explore a prequel series centered on Mark Harmon’s iconic character, Leroy Jethro Gibbs. In NCIS: Origins, Harmon will serve as executive producer and narrator, while Austin Stowell steps into the role of the younger Gibbs.
Taking on such a well-loved character is no small feat, and Stowell is aware of the challenge. The series, set in 1991, will offer fans a fresh look at Gibbs. During a Television Critics Association panel, Stowell shared the brief yet invaluable advice Harmon gave him: “Just be yourself.” This simple guidance is crucial as Stowell brings his own take to the younger version of Gibbs, ensuring a respectful and authentic portrayal.
