Mark Harmon is set to return to a beloved role fans have been eagerly awaiting, but it’s not as Leroy Jethro Gibbs on NCIS. Despite his enduring love for the character and its fan base, Harmon will reprise his role as Ryan Coleman from the beloved family comedy Freaky Friday, which first premiered in 2003.

Over 20 years since its release, Disney has confirmed a sequel with lead stars Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis. On June 24, Disney shared a photo of Lohan and Curtis on set, confirming the sequel’s production for a 2025 release.

Nisha Ganatra will direct, with original cast members Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao returning alongside new stars Manny Jacinto, Julia Butters, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, and Sophia Hammons.

Fans expressed excitement on social media, with one declaring, “My 2025 has just been made!” Mark Harmon, who left NCIS after 19 seasons, remains close to the NCIS family as an executive producer and recently ventured into writing with his historical nonfiction book, Ghosts of Honolulu.

In a conversation with People last year, Harmon reflected on his career and latest project, emphasizing the historical significance tied to NCIS’s origins.
