NCIS fans were recently treated to a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the upcoming prequel, NCIS: Origins, but the reaction has been far from unanimous. The new series, set in the 1990s, stars Austin Stowell as a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs, stepping into the shoes originally worn by Mark Harmon. While some fans are excited about this latest addition to the NCIS universe, many are still angry over CBS’s decision to cancel NCIS: Hawaii after just three seasons.
A new post on the official NCISVerse Instagram account, featuring images of Stowell and his co-stars Mariel Molino, Kyle Schmid, and Diany Rodriguez, was met with a barrage of frustrated comments. Fans demanded that CBS scrap Origins in favor of bringing back NCIS: Hawaii. One fan angrily wrote, “Stop canceling diverse shows in favor of rehashing old stories that have been told a billion times over.” Others echoed the sentiment, expressing their disappointment and urging the network to listen to its audience.
However, not everyone is against the prequel. Some fans defended Origins, arguing it’s time to move on from Hawaii. One supporter commented, “One day I’d like to open a comment section and not read someone crying about Hawaii getting canceled.” Another added, “Literally the only prequel I’ll ever willingly watch!”
Despite the mixed reactions, NCIS fans still have plenty to look forward to, including the highly anticipated return of Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) and Ziva David (Cote de Pablo). With another season of NCIS: Sydney also on the horizon, it’s clear there are still fresh stories to explore in the NCIS universe.
NCIS: Origins premieres Monday, October 14, on CBS. NCIS is available to stream on Disney+.
