NCIS LA’s Eric Christian Olsen delivers disappointing update on Marty Deeks’ future with the CBS franchise

Eric Christian Olsen, star of *NCIS: Los Angeles*, doesn’t seem eager to return to the CBS franchise anytime soon.

Olsen, who played fan-favorite investigator Marty Deeks from season one, saw his time on the hit spinoff end last year when it was canceled after 14 seasons. While co-star LL Cool J made a guest appearance in *NCIS: Hawaii* (which has since been canceled), Olsen doesn’t foresee a similar return for himself.

In an interview with TVLine, Olsen admitted that while he misses his co-stars, he doesn’t see Marty Deeks coming back anytime soon. “I actively miss Todd [LL Cool J], I was texting with Renee [Felice Smith] this morning, and I see [my sister-in-law] Daniela [Ruah] all the time,” he shared. However, he revealed he doesn’t feel much of a desire to play Deeks again, saying he’s “not so much” interested in returning to the role.

With *NCIS* heading into its 22nd season and spin-offs being replaced by a prequel centered on young Leroy Gibbs (played by Austin Stowell), the chance of Deeks returning seems unlikely. The focus on new characters and storylines would make it difficult to incorporate appearances from previous spinoff stars.

Despite stepping away from *NCIS*, Olsen remains active in the industry, serving as an executive producer for the upcoming *Matlock* series, according to the *Express*. He even joked about imagining himself in scenes from the show, calling them “really good, dramatic or funny.”

Whether as Deeks or a new character, fans would be thrilled to see Olsen return to their screens. Outside of work, Olsen enjoys life with his wife Sarah Wright and their three children.
