NCIS legend Mark Harmon, famous for his role as Leroy Jethro Gibbs, is set to return to the big screen, but not in the way fans might expect. The former Special Agent in Charge will reprise his role as Ryan in Disney’s upcoming sequel, *Freaky Friday 2*.
After departing NCIS at the start of season 19 in 2021, Harmon will join Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan in the much-anticipated sequel. The original 2003 film featured Ryan engaged to Tess Coleman (Curtis), mother of Anna Coleman (Lohan).
Disney announced the sequel’s production on Instagram, sharing a photo of Curtis and Lohan on set. Curtis, in a playful rock ‘n’ roll pose, celebrated the return of the Colemans. Disney’s caption read: “The Colemans are back and coming to theaters in 2025! The sequel to *Freaky Friday* is now in production!” Curtis echoed the excitement, posting, “WE ARE FREAKING OUT because the Colemans are getting FREAKY AGAIN!”
Mark Harmon has been seen filming in Los Angeles for the sequel, which will feature returning cast members Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao. New additions include Julia Butters, Manny Jacinto, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, and Sophia Hammons. Directed by Nisha Ganatra, known for *The High Note* and *Late Night*, the film is slated for a theatrical release next year.
In the meantime, fans can stream NCIS on Disney+.
