Mark Harmon, widely recognized for his role as Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs on CBS’s long-running series NCIS, experienced a life-changing phone call that had nothing to do with his career. Unlike his character, who went through four marriages onscreen, Harmon has remained committed to one partner in real life. He married fellow actor Pam Dawber in 1987, and the two have maintained a strong relationship ever since.
In 1986, a mutual friend attempted to set Harmon up with Dawber. Instead of waiting, Harmon took the initiative and called Dawber directly. Their connection was immediate, and they were married within a year. This decisive approach mirrors his character’s directness on NCIS. Harmon and Dawber have since built a life together, raising two sons while continuing to enjoy successful careers.
During the ’80s and ’90s, Harmon starred in notable series like St. Elsewhere and Reasonable Doubts, while Dawber gained fame for her role in Mork & Mindy alongside Robin Williams and later in the sitcom My Sister Sam. Despite their prominence, the couple has kept their personal lives relatively private, which may be one reason for their enduring marriage.
