**NCIS’ Tony DiNozzo: Inspired by a Supernatural Star?**
TV and movie actors often draw inspiration from unexpected sources, and Michael Weatherly’s journey to create NCIS’ Tony DiNozzo was no exception. Weatherly revealed on the Off Duty: An NCIS Rewatch podcast that his portrayal of DiNozzo was influenced early on by his Dark Angel co-star, Jensen Ackles, who later found fame on Supernatural.
“He was so loose and free,” Weatherly recalled, “and I thought, ‘Maybe I’ll imitate him a little bit,’ though I’m a terrible mimic.”
Weatherly’s quest to define DiNozzo’s laid-back and witty persona didn’t end there. He also looked to classic actors like Cary Grant, Tom Hanks, and Alec Baldwin before settling into the role that would resonate deeply with NCIS fans.
