Former NCIS star Mark Harmon, who has rarely been seen in public since leaving the series in 2021, looks almost unrecognizable two decades after he first joined the iconic crime drama. The show, which first aired in 2003, follows a team of special agents from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service and is a spin-off from the series JAG. Over the years, NCIS has released 21 seasons and spawned six spin-offs.

Harmon is now working behind the scenes as an executive producer for a new prequel series titled *NCIS: Origins*, which stars Austin Stowell from *The Hating Game*. Set around 12 years before the original series, the prequel will follow a young Gibbs as a new special agent at the NCIS Camp Pendleton office. Harmon, who has been married to actress Pam Dawber since 1987, will also narrate the series.

Reflecting on his reduced role, Harmon previously said, “I’m fine with the stepback role and letting the cast do the work. I’m pleased to be part of it. I’m a distant part. I’m just here to support.” *NCIS: Origins* is set to be released this autumn.
