NCIS: Origins Co-Showrunner Addresses Major Plot Hole Concerns
David North, co-showrunner of NCIS: Origins, has assured fans that the series will resolve a significant plot hole involving Jethro Gibbs’ relationship with his father, Jackson. According to TVLine, North confirmed, “We did solve it. We’re very aware of the canon and what’s been set up, and we’re working within that.” He added, “Jackson (played by Robert Taylor) is an important role, and his influence on Gibbs will be evident.”
In the original NCIS, Gibbs, portrayed by Mark Harmon, mentioned not speaking to his father since the 1991 funeral of his late wife and daughter, Shannon and Kelly. This created a timeline issue, as Jackson, initially played by Ralph Waite, first appeared in the show’s sixth season—15 years later. NCIS: Origins is set to address this discrepancy.
NCIS: Origins will be the sixth installment in the NCIS franchise, following series like NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, NCIS: Hawai’i, and NCIS: Sydney. The show will star Austin Stowell as young Jethro Gibbs, with Robert Taylor as Jackson, Mariel Molino as Special Agent Lala Dominguez, Kyle Schmid as Special Agent Mike Franks, and more. Mark Harmon will also return as the older Gibbs, narrating the series.
NCIS: Origins is set to premiere on CBS on October 14.
