As NCIS: Hawai’i approaches its end, fans are left grappling with the void it will inevitably leave behind. While there are two spinoffs in development—NCIS: Origins, delving into Gibbs’s early years, and the Tony DiNozzo Jr. and Ziva David-centric NCIS: Europe—they fail to capture the essence of Hawai’i’s expansion of the NCIS universe.
Unlike these upcoming spinoffs, which rely on familiar faces from the flagship series, NCIS: Hawai’i boasts a diverse cast of fresh characters with untapped potential. While the new endeavors promise to shed light on beloved characters, they lack the same sense of exploration and innovation that made Hawai’i so unique.
Unfortunately, the decision to end NCIS: Hawai’i prematurely deprives fans of the opportunity to fully explore the stories of its compelling characters. As the final season unfolds, viewers are left lamenting the loss of a true expansion of the NCIS universe.
Catch NCIS season 21 every Monday at 8pm ET, followed by NCIS: Hawai’i season 3 at 10pm ET on CBS.
